There is a small town in Norway called Hell. It freezes over approximately from late November to early March. Just so you know.

Hell means Luck in their language. Hel is Hell, as in the Goddess Hel.
But yet again, no one bothers to look into anything they just laugh their 35-year-old-virgin arses off.

Whereas you are correct in saying “hell” means luck, the Norwegian word for hell is “helvete”. “Hel” means whole. I agree that it’s not exactly Engrish, it’s not a misspelling or mistranslation, but it is still something that amuses English speakers when they see signs like “welcome to Hell”.
I’d say this is neither Engrish nor a FAILure. Just another one of those non-english words that become humorous in english. Just as “gods-expedition”, “fart kontrol”, etc, etc.
I’ve also noticed more images in the FAIL section lately which are arguably not failures at all…
Maybe there should be a new and separate section for all of these random funny pics which are neither engrish nor fails?

Nah. I’ve been to Hell several times, and there’s nothing in the area that even remotely looks like that. It’s a very small town.
The festival on 06-06-06 was pretty awesome, though.
Nope, the sign is European-style (blue with white text). And besides, Michigan is home of the automobile. Do you really think you’re going to find bicycle paths there?

Hell on norwegian means “luck” in english, hell on english means helvete on norwegian;) hell is a little place near Trondheim (city) if you fly to norway, værnes (airport).. værnes is in hell:D
