As someone who, for years, was always asking, “Who said….,” and usually nobody knew, I absolutely LOVE the ability on the net to track even obscure quotes down in short order. The downside is that several very pithy sayings I had claimed as original have turned out to not be so.
Could this be some sort of warning intended to let people know that a whole bunch of political canvassers are hiding just around the corner, waiting to pounce on unwary citizens around election time, flail at them with pamphlets, recite party line incomprehensible policy-speak at them, attempt to kiss their children and generally leave them even more befogged than before?
Actually, I believe it’s an attempt to show how Democracy is a slippery slo…wait, the line is pretty much level…
*HEY! Could we get someone over here please? We need to get this sign remounted! YES it’s urgent! Thank you! Ok, could you just mount it so the right side is lower…no, the other right side…that’s it, thanks…is lower so that it looks like the person is sliding down a slope? Thanks so much.*
Democracy is straddling the fence so he can show he is not representing the other side. Prevarication is the ability to embrace both sides of the truth without stepping into it directly.
Oh, grud, Axl Rose, the love child of Willie Nelson. It’s true, go and compare them sometime: same red hair, same bandanna around the head, same nasal whining singing voice. Or they could be the same person. Has anyone ever seen them in the same room?
Worse than the room where my High School shop teachers all hung out between classes. It was a small room, there were 6 of them, they all smoked cigars or a pipe, and when you opened the door you saw the “air” coming out into the corridor.
When the mopping doesn’t work anymore it is impossible to get the floor stripped, sealed, and waxed because that requires a change in routine and effort.
Language capacity of the bungle human underestimated cannot to be. English both me speak and wife. Sometimes, sentences can finished be, other by. Sometimes language same, are not.
Apparently, it will make you slip.
do it carefully
MOAR COMRADES!!
….. after Communism has taken away your shoes and your feet, apparently.
You’re right, communism has worn the poor guy down to his nubs!
Socrates was right!
Subtle philosophical WIN!
It’s the domino effect.
It’s the *reverse* domino theory. If you push over one non-democratic mop bucket, it will make the next one fall over, and so on.
It’s not for everyone.
Caution! Democracy Ahead! Beware of falling Hopes and failing Changes!?
Did I win?
current situation win
Just goes to show that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.
Reality WIN!
Churchill beat me to that one by a few decades.
speech in the House of Commons, 11 November 1947
Speaking as one who was there?
Speaking as one who just discovered Wikiquote actually.
Viva!!

I think I probably learned that in History class at some point, but I always got C’s in Social Studies..
Oh, but where does our Capitalist Republic fit in?
Wonder what Winnie would say…
the Pooh?
Him, too.
Believe it or not, my first truly creative thought this morning was, Ugh! Should have put, “Him, tooh.”
He would say that he does believe it is time for a small smackerel of something.
Caution: “Democracy + Banana Peel” is what the sign is really supposed to say.
That’s an awfully long banana peel. It looks more like a puddle of water. Maybe it represents NATO?
It’s showing what Democracy would like to do to Jesus. No-one else can walk on water, so why should he?
mabye there should be a jesus fish in the puddle?
it says something along the lines of: caution, slippery ground.
i don’t speak chinese, but i speak japanese, and the characters are pretty close and have almost the same meanings, in many cases.
i dont think it mentions anything about democracy there. funny. i have no idea how they got that ranslation.
Maybe the Chinese government is trying to warn people that everyone (including society) will fall if democraccy is instated?
…if so, attempt at humorous propaganda win!

Democracy is straddling the fence so he can show he is not representing the other side. Prevarication is the ability to embrace both sides of the truth without stepping into it directly.
That’s the nicest definition of prevarication I’ve ever heard!
you mean like Tom Cruise?
A reference to Guns ‘N Roses album “Chinese Democracy” (I’m not serious)
I can’t believe they were, either.
Oh, grud, Axl Rose, the love child of Willie Nelson. It’s true, go and compare them sometime: same red hair, same bandanna around the head, same nasal whining singing voice. Or they could be the same person. Has anyone ever seen them in the same room?
You couldn’t see anything in that room for the smoke!
Worse than the room where my High School shop teachers all hung out between classes. It was a small room, there were 6 of them, they all smoked cigars or a pipe, and when you opened the door you saw the “air” coming out into the corridor.
Um.. Win WIN!
Where is this? It looks like the lid of a washing machine.
Modern day democracy is dangerous. True republics are much safer and less slippery.
What about all those false republics?
I wonder why people slipped from a funny picture to politics
Because one of the two words in the picture IS political??
In soviet china, democracy kills people.
Orly? Don’t you mean in Iraq?
In soviet China, some people kill democracy.
I’ve got it! Democracy: where anyone can try water skiing, regardless of talent.
Democracy: Finding someone that can lead others in walking on water to get things done.
Democracy: It’s so easy, it’s like falling backwards into a pool.
Can anyone translate the Kanji?
It means “Be Careful, Wet Floor.”
So democracy is like a wet floor?
Democracy is like a newly mopped floor – people are generally in favour of it, until they are charged with some responsibility for bringing it about.
And then when someone else does it, they are to blame for all the slips and falls.
When the mopping doesn’t work anymore it is impossible to get the floor stripped, sealed, and waxed because that requires a change in routine and effort.
Do any of the Kanji there have an alternate reading that is even close to “Democracy”?
Hey whats going on here. I cant understand anything..
Welcome! That’s par for the course.
I understand Chinese… but i seriously can’t link how “Wet Floor” translates to Democracy even with the worst translation dictionary.
Welcome to engrish! Where nothing can possibly go worong.
Language capacity of the bungle human underestimated cannot to be. English both me speak and wife. Sometimes, sentences can finished be, other by. Sometimes language same, are not.
Will you stop yoding at us? It’s too early in the morning.
I was just trying to Engrish! I can’t help when those multiple personalities grab hold of the controls.
Be Careful – Everyone May Fall ….. Caution Democracy! Especially when you consider that whenever a communist regime falls up pops democracy
yeah, the last time a bunch of people got together, they voted to have me thrown in a lake as well. damn you, majority…
how in the world do you get “democracy” out of “wet floor”?
..hmm… I’m pretty sure it involves Kevin Bacon.
(Wikipedia link in my clicky nick for those obscure reference impaired)
slippery democracy. this is a totally new concept to me
