Saw that on another website and told rangers at Yellowstone they should put these up around the geysers. In Japanese even, lots of Nihonjin tourists. I once had to stop a Japanese man from posing his wife next to a bison for a photo op! Have since learned some warning phrases in Japanese, that scared me so much.

Yes, Peter Payne from J-list taught me that one. I’ve used it, too. At Hanauma Bay on Oahu I saw a Japanese girl about to try to touch a Moray eel. “Abunai” works just fine!

They had to put the “Old Faithful” geyser in a fenced area because people thought they could play in that column of steam like ti was a water fall.

I think they mean it..you can see what looks like steam or smoke under the tree…it could be in the same place as Beppu,japan..called the hells. It’s nine hot springs that if you fall in you die..but they are really awesome looking.

In Japan, many of the ponds around volcanos actually contain boiling acidic water. Not recommended falling into one. You will boil to d34h.
Funny, the brochure I got from the Tourism Board never mentioned that…
I bet somewhere in Japan has a sister pond and a similar sign reads:
